1:1 Birth Companionship for the Muslim woman

Someone in your corner, from pregnancy to postpartum

SANAD Birth Companionship is a 1:1 journey for the Muslimah seeking sakeenah and yaqeen. I walk beside you through your pregnancy and into postpartum, so every time a new decision comes up, you have someone to come back to.

Start whenever you're ready. Limited spots each month.

Making birth decisions is hard. You're not doing it wrong.

Maybe you already know what you want, but something stops you from saying it out loud.

"What if I choose this and something goes wrong?"
"What if I'm disappointed?"
"My OB sounded so sure. Maybe they know better."

Or maybe you don't know what you want yet. You've read everything, watched everything, asked everyone, and somehow you're more confused than when you started.

"Home or hospital? VBAC or planned caesarean? I don't even know what I need to know."

Both are so normal, sis. And your fear of getting it wrong comes from love for your baby. That fear makes sense. It just doesn't have to make the decision for you.

The real problem

It was never an information problem

You read the books. You took the course. You know the physiology, and you have the faith. And still, the fear hasn't moved.

Underneath, it's two things: a clarity problem and a deep-rooted self-mistrust. You don't yet have clear words for the birth you want, only for the one you fear. And even where you do know, a lifelong habit of deferring to doctors, to family, to whoever sounds more certain, stops you from acting on it.

That habit once kept you safe and approved of. But birth is the one moment you can't outsource. Your baby comes through your body, and you need to be there fully, as yourself.

Underneath it all sits the fear almost no one says out loud: that if anything goes wrong, the blame is yours for having wanted it. So deferring starts to feel like love. This companionship is built to free you from that.

Your decisions unfold across your pregnancy. So can your support.

Birth decisions come up appointment by appointment:

  • Where you'd love to give birth
  • Which care feels right for you
  • Tests and scans
  • Who's in your birth space
  • Conversations about timing near the end

You don't have to figure it all out at once, or on your own. SANAD isn't a timetable you keep up with. It bends to you and your baby. You decide. I walk with you.

The method

SANAD: the support you lean on

Sanad is a pillar, a backing, the thing that holds you steady when you'd otherwise fall. The quiet truth of this work is that your real sanad was always Allah. This companionship helps you lean there, with your own hands on the palm tree and your whole trust in Him.

S

Set Your Intention

We begin with intention, not permission. We name your why and what this birth is for, and take an honest first look at your story, so the work stands on a real foundation.

A

Attune to Your Body

Understand what your body is designed to do: the physiology, the stages, the preparation, and how to meet the unexpected with knowledge instead of fear.

N

Nurture Your Knowing

Reconnect to the instinct Allah placed in you, your fitrah, and clear away the conditioning that taught you to override it. This is where the good-girl pattern is named, and where the cycle breaks.

A

Anchor in Allah

Through Maryam (a.s.), who shook the palm tree and trusted completely in one act, you build a surrender that is earned, not resigned: full effort, then full trust. Sakeenah and yaqeen become the ground you stand on.

D

Decide & Prepare

From that grounded place, you make your birth decisions, map your birth, find your voice and prepare for postpartum, using NOOR: Niyyah, Options (BRAINS), Own your feelings, Rely on Allah.

How it works

How your companionship works

1
2 calls, close together

Your first fortnight

We begin straight away, while your niyyah is fresh. We set your intention, get clear on the birth you truly want, and walk through your birth story, naming the fears that have held you back from deciding.

Your personalised birth roadmap: whether you're planning a VBAC, preparing for a home birth or walking toward your first birth, I build you a roadmap of exactly what to focus on. That means the books, podcasts, exercises and practices that matter for your path, and the noise you can safely set down.

2
3 calls, at your pace

Through your pregnancy

Fortnightly, monthly or around the shape of your pregnancy. Together we move through the rest of the SANAD pillars. You lead the pace, I hold the thread, so nothing is rushed and nothing is missed.

3
From day one to 6 weeks postpartum

Alongside you on WhatsApp

For the question that comes up at your appointment, the doubt that creeps in at 2am, or the decision you want to talk through before you make it. You're never carrying this alone.

4
Your reflection call

After your birth

We come back together to honour what happened, release what needs releasing, and say Alhamdulillah from a place of peace.

+

Your self-paced library

Eight video modules run alongside the calls. They cover the physiology of birth, preparing body and mind, navigating the unexpected, your conditioning, Maryam (a.s.) and tawakkul, earned surrender, and making your birth decisions. They're yours to revisit any time.

The transformation

Who you become

Before"I've done all the courses and I still feel like I haven't done enough."
After"I've done my part. I know what I want and why. The rest I leave to Allah."
BeforeKnows only what she doesn't want.
After"This is exactly what I want, and here's why."
BeforeDefers to the room and calls it deen.
AfterSubmits to Allah, and advocates calmly with people. Knows the difference.
BeforeCarries the last birth as "my body failed."
AfterHas processed it, and trusts the body Allah gave her.
BeforeAfraid her wants will be used against her.
AfterKnows informed choice is responsibility, not recklessness.
BeforeSurrender as resignation: "whatever happens, happens."
AfterSurrender as tawakkul: full effort, then genuine peace.

This reaches beyond the birth itself. You step into birth as the first act of your amanah as a mother, and you show up differently afterwards, in your mothering and in your whole life.

What the work actually feels like

It's a Tuesday afternoon. A comment from your last appointment has been circling in your head for two days. It was said quickly, and it left you feeling small and unsure whether you're allowed to ask for what you want.

You open WhatsApp and send me a voice note. You don't have to perform being fine.

My reply isn't a pep talk. I name the exact moment you got pulled off your own ground:

"Notice what happened there. You went quiet the second someone sounded more certain than you. That's the old pattern, not the truth. Let's get the words ready so next time you can say it without shrinking."

And something settles. The fear isn't gone, but you're not carrying it alone. It's private, personal and always rooted in your deen.

There's no single "right" birth

Home, hospital, birth centre, VBAC, planned caesarean. Every one of them can be yours.

I won't tell you which birth to choose. You are the authority in your birth. My role is to help you get clear on what you want and choose it with conviction, so you walk in as yourself, not as a passenger.

Meet your companion

Hi sis, I'm Gess

I'm a Melbourne-based doula and birth mindset coach, and the founder of Pillars of Motherhood.

When I was pregnant with my first in 2020, I made a du'a: if I failed at everything else, let me at least be the best mother I could be. That du'a started everything.

I've birthed both my children at home, and I learnt that birth can be powerful and beautiful, not only the scary stories we usually hear. My births are my story, though, not the standard. What I hold for every sister is the same: a birth decision that is fully hers.

When a mother lives in alignment with her fitrah, her whole ecosystem thrives.

SANAD Birth Companionship is for you if…

  • You're a Muslim woman preparing for birth: in your first or second trimester, between births, or before conception
  • You've prepared and prepared, and the fear is still there
  • You're ready to look honestly at your past births and your patterns
  • You want this work held inside your deen, not beside it
  • You're ready to choose yourself, without apology, and do the inner work

It's not for you if…

  • You want reassurance that your birth will be fine, rather than a process that asks you to go inward
  • You'd like to be told exactly what to do
  • You're in crisis or need clinical psychological care. This is coaching, not therapy
  • You only want clinical birth information. This isn't an antenatal class

The guarantee

The SANAD Commitment

Show up to every call and complete the reflection work. If you reach your birth without real clarity and conviction about what you want, and the words to say it, we keep walking together until you do, at no extra cost.

Here's what I can promise: you'll walk away with sakeenah in your heart, knowing you've done everything within your power. Then, whatever your birth asks of you, you can be fully present in it and leave the outcome to Allah in peace.

I'll never promise you a particular birth. No one honestly can, and your worth was never tied to how your baby arrives. But you won't walk in as a passenger. You'll walk in as yourself.

"You took the means with your own hands, and you trusted completely."

That is tawakkul. And your sanad, the One you lean on, was Allah all along.
